Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS/MIRS) and Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS)

Monday, September 17, 2007

Each year, the Faculty of Economics and Commerce is allocated a limited number of Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS/MIRS) and Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS). The Faculty's R&RT Committee, chaired by the Associate Dean (Research), meets in December of each year and considers department nominations for the award of these scholarships.

In recent years the Faculty's Scholarship Committee has employed the following criteria when awarding MRS/MIRS and MIFRS scholarships to PhD and MCom by research students:

  • only those applicants who have been nominated by their department and who are deemed eligible by the University's Postgraduate Scholarships Committee are considered for MRS/MIRS and MIFRS scholarships;
  • only those applicants with a confirmed scholarship score of 80 and above are considered for MRS/MIRS and MIFRS scholarships
  • nominations are considered in rank order based on the applicant's scholarship score and research potential
  • priority is given to students who have not previously held a postgraduate research scholarship (i.e. an APA, MRS/MIRS, MIFRS or an equivalent scholarship).

Please note that the criteria used to award scholarships may change from year to year depending on Faculty's MRS/MIRS and MIFRS allocation, and/or on the number and calibre of applications received.
